It was a wonderful and busy October here at VFKH Phoenixville. We had the opportunity to celebrate and learn about different holidays throughout the month.
Diwali
Thank you to our families for helping us celebrate Diwali, including the stories about this celebration and the beautiful art/science lesson.
The children were amazed by the dijas coming to life on the paper and enjoyed the delicious mango lassi.
Zoo-On-Wheels
We also had the opportunity to visit with some interesting animals when the Zoo-On-Wheels came to school. The children were very impressed by the long snake skin they felt and how soft chinchilla fur was.
Halloween
The children looked so cute in their Halloween costumes for the Halloween parade. It was nice to see all of the parents participating and cheering at the scarecrow race.
Thank you to all who volunteered to make this a special day for all.
Practical Life Lessons
Meanwhile, in the classroom, children have been working in our Practical Life area. Practical Life lessons are the skills we use in everyday life, like preparing food, taking care of the self, and caring for the environment.
These activities are appropriate for all ages and can be as simple as pulling their pants up, washing their hands, or getting to bake a dessert. They offer a multi-step process that helps children develop a problem-solving mindset, independence, confidence, concentration, a sense of order, and pride in completing a job. A way to help them at home is to allow them to take care of their own space and help with cooking, folding laundry, and pets.
