Last week we celebrated the Lunar New Year 2017 , thanks to the Nguyen and Pham families. This is one of the biggest holidays in Vietnam, where it is called Tet. Many Vietnamese families continue this very special tradition here in the USA. The Primary and Elementary classes were very privileged to have some of our school families celebrate this occasion with us.
Kayla, Marielle, Dylan and Kayden wore their traditional clothing, which are worn for such celebrations. Kayla’s mom, Nhat Khai, explained how they follow the Lunar calendar, which makes the New Year a different date each year. In their culture, each year is represented by an animal, which more or less predicts the kind of year it will be – hoping more luck, good health and prosperity than previous years. This new year we say hello to the Year of the Rooster. These ideas were very intriguing to the children. Also enjoyable were the special delicacies that were shown to the group and delicious dried fruits share with all. It was such a treat that everybody definitely appreciated.
We would also like to thank the Weldon family who gave all our children red envelopes. This is a traditional gift parents give to their children. Thank you!
