October was a very busy month filled with so many exciting events. Our fall season allowed our students to truly enjoy the discovery of how the leaves change colors and the welcoming of the cooler weather. We also celebrated a variety of special events and holidays at school.
Special Events and Celebrations
The children were delighted when Zoo-On-Wheels came to our school with their special animals – Sandy the tortoise, Carmel the milk snake, and the huge long lopped-eared gray rabbit. Not only did the children learn a little about each of these unique animals and their habitats, but they also got the chance to touch a variety of different animal skins that were passed around for all to feel.
We want to truly thank all of the volunteer mothers who participated in bringing our Diwali celebration to life for the children. They loved hearing about the story, drawing on their wooden Mandalas, eating delicious sweets, and drinking mango milkshakes.
Our last event ended our month with a huge party for our Fall Fest and Songs. The children were so cute in their costumes and loved playing all the games. A big hug and thank you to all of our parents who volunteered to make this event so successful. We also want to thank Selina and Surian’s grandfather for being our scarecrow.
Sensorial Lessons
Another special activity that is developing in our classroom this month is how the children are working on a variety of lessons from the Sensorial materials. The Sensorial lessons offer the children the opportunity to become more aware of each descriptive detail by offering them, at first, strongly contrasted sensations, such as red and blue, and then variously graded sensations, such as the many different shades of blue.
Each material isolates one defining quality such as color, weight, shape, texture, size, sound, smell, etc. The language that these materials provide help a child learn how to categorize their awareness of their world through their experiences.
